Vassilis Spanoulis will resurface in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague following a legendary playing career as the new head coach of AS Monaco.
He reached an agreement with La Roca Team, as reported by Serbian outlet Meridian sport on Tuesday.
Spanoulis, 42, is set to replace Sasa Obradovic. The Serbian tactician officially parted ways with Monaco on Monday.
The team playing out of the Fontvieille district, within the Principality of Monaco, currently ranks seventh in the EuroLeague standings. A 6-4 tally is one game outside the top six seeds leading directly to the Playoffs of Europe’s premier club continental competition. At 5-3 in France’s Betclic Elite, the back-to-back champions are facing a distance of two games from leading Cholet.
A three-time EuroLeague champion as a player, Spanoulis started a coaching career with the Select Team of the Euroleague Basketball Next Generation Tournament in 2021.
Hired by Peristeri in 2022, he was in charge through two successful campaigns. After leading the Greek club to the Final Four of the Basketball Champions League, he was named Basketball Champions League Best Coach of the 2023-24 season.
Taking over the senior national team of Greece, Spanoulis was an immediate hit, masterminding a berth to the Olympic Games via the 2024 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Piraeus. From there, he guided Greece to the Quarterfinals of the Olympic Tournament in France.
After joining forces during the offseason, the superstar of the Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo credited Spanoulis for various improvements, including becoming more confident in his shot.
