The High Court of Justice of the Basque Country has dismissed Baskonia’s appeal to claim an additional €1 million from Luca Vildoza, MARCA reports.
In January, a Vitoria court ruled that Argentine point guard Luca Vildoza must pay €1 million of his €2 million buyout clause after leaving the club in 2021 to join the NBA’s New York Knicks. Baskonia sought the full amount of the clause when Vildoza returned from the NBA to sign with Crvena zvezda, claiming the rights to the Argentine playmaker belonged to them.
Eventually, the Basque court ruled that half of the buyout clause was sufficient compensation for Baskonia, and the club’s appeal for the remaining amount has been rejected.
Vildoza’s career has been eventful since leaving Baskonia. Following surgery on his right foot, he briefly played for the Milwaukee Bucks, making his NBA debut. He joined Crvena zvezda in October 2022 and later moved to Panathinaikos, where he won the EuroLeague title in 2023.
This past summer, Vildoza transferred to Olympiacos, where he is averaging 5.2 points, 2.7 assists, and 2 rebounds in 10 EuroLeague appearances this season.
