Fenerbahce surprised Virtus Bologna with a last-minute comeback victory thanks to Marko Guduric’s and Nigel Hayes-Davis’ daggers, keeping the first position in the EuroLeague standings at 9-2.
And in the post-game flash interview, Sarunas Jasikevicius spoke quite frankly about his team’s victory, which was trailing for most of the game.
“I don’t even know what to say in this interview. The way we played today, probably in the fourth quarter the players stopped listening to me. That’s probably when they played the best basketball. That’s how we’re gonna sum up the whole night”, Fenerbahce’s head coach started.
“We wanted to find the fighting spirit in the fourth quarter, and I thought we were a little bit better. We tried to make it close, we were close for a while. In the end, it came down to… I just need to stop talking anyway because I don’t understand anything about basketball”, he then followed, leaving the stage.
“Nigel [Hayes-Davis] is carrying us”
“I’m not sure it’s possible to win EuroLeague games on the road playing this basketball. But we won. Don’t explain to me how, don’t explain to me why. Don’t ask me. Sometimes it’s like this, I guess”, he added in the post-game press conference.
Then, he was also asked about Marko Guduric and Nigel Hayes-Davis. “Marko [Guduric] did exactly what I didn’t ask him to do: that’s why we probably won today. He found the solution”, he said. “Nigel [Hayes-Davis] has been playing at this level now for the whole season, he’s carrying us and playing at the MVP level“, he also followed on the American game-winning shooter.
Before the Lithuanian head coach could speak about Fenerbahce’s performance, Marko Guduric took the mic. “We came out better in the second half. Virtus played an amazing game, I don’t know how we pulled this one off. Big shot in the end by Nigel [Hayes-Davis] to close out the game”, he opened.
