Andreas Obst scored 34 points on 11/16 threes, registered a new EuroLeague record, and led FC Bayern Munich to an impressive 100-78 win over FC Barcelona.
The fight for a spot in the tie for second place in the standings ended up being a one-man show for the German sharpshooter.
“Somebody told me that I was near the record, so I was aware of it and it was a great night also because of the team’s win”, admitted a smiling Obst holding the game ball after the final buzzer.
Carsen Edwards added 25 points on 7/8 two-pointers and 2/9 threes. Jabari Parker had 26 points for Barcelona, but that ended up being just a footnote.
After this game, Bayern, Olympiacos, and Paris are tied at 8-3 in the second spot of the standings behind Fenerbahce (9-2).
Barcelona on the other hand is part of a four-way tie between the 5th and the 8th spot with Panathinaikos, Zalgiris and Monaco as all four teams have a 7-4 record.
One Obst to rule them all
Bayern playing at home had an edge, closing the first period up by seven (28-21) after a big three by Shabazz Napier.
Barcelona stayed close until four minutes before the end of the first half, when Bayern for the first time led by double digits (42-32).
The Bavarians even had a 12-point advantage (48-36) with Andreas Obst scoring 13 points, but Punter made it a 10-point game (48-38) at halftime.
Nothing changed in the third period, with Obst scoring nine quick points for a total of 22 on 7/9 threes as Bayern was leading 61-49.
Ηe didn’t stop there and the lead jumped to 20 points (74-54), as Barcelona couldn’t react. Bayern entered the fourth quarter up by 19 (77-58), the score was 85-60 with seven minutes left, and the game was over.
