El Clasico was one of the best and most enjoyable games of the whole 2024-25 EuroLeague Regular Season, which ultimately finished with Real Madrid beating Barcelona 97-90 on the road after a two-overtime continuous and tremendous battle between the two rivals.
Perfectly connecting on the pick-and-roll with the Argentinian magician Facundo Campazzo, Walter Tavares was particularly decisive for Real Madrid. The 32-year-old dominant center finished with a huge double-double of 24 points and 18 rebounds, shooting 10/13 from the field with a 39-PIR.
“This is the Clásico. We gave everything, we defended”, this week’s EuroLeague MVP of the Round commented in the post-game interview. “We knew it was going to be hard, but we’ve got to fight. This year, we’ve got to sweat blood to win every game”, the Capoverdian center followed.
Multiple over 30-PIR performances in Round 12
Edy Tavares wasn’t the only one performing an over 30-PIR night in the EuroLeague Round 12. Nikola Mirotic, for example, had a 38-PIR showdown to take down Fenerbache, almost putting up a double-double with 29 points and 9 rebounds for Milan on the road in Istanbul.
Filip Petrusev had the umpteenth crucial game for Crvena Zvezda since returning to the red-and-white side of Belgrade, tying his career-high in scoring with 25 points and a final 34-PIR to beat Bayern. Likewise, Alpha Diallo had a 35-PIR to help Monaco beat Panathinaikos in OAKA.
Following this award, Walter Tavares has now collected a total of seven EuroLeague MVPs of the Round throughout his career in the major European competition, joining Fenerbahce‘s Wade Baldwin IV, Rudy Fernandez, Anthony Parker, Alexey Shved, and Ante Tomic.
