Fenerbahce Beko coach Sarunas Jasikevicius had several complaints over his team’s performance in the away loss to Baskonia that marked the second straight EuroLeague defeat for the Turkish powerhouse.
Perhaps the harsher criticism that Saras made after the game was that his team acted “unprofessional” in some moments.
“Our mental preparation before the game,” Saras said to EuroLeague TV on what went wrong for his team. “This is obvious. We didn’t come ready to play. We understood that Baskonia would be extremely motivated ater their last performance but we didn’t match it. In some cases, we were a little bit unprofessional.”
Fenerbahce fell behind by 23 points, 45 – 23, a bit before halftime and trailed even by 25 when Donta Hall scored for the 50 – 25 early in the third quarter. Saras’ players tried to make a comeback but Baskonia easily held an advantage beyond double figures.
“We didn’t come to play in the first half. It was horrible,” Jasikevicius mentioned in the post-game presser. “On top of that we had some open shots but we missed practically everything. It was a mix of everything really. No defense, missing shots. Just a bad day. No explanation for the first half.”
