Fenerbahce got their 10th win of the season and did it in style in Madrid, getting the 82-70 win.
Nigel Hayes-Davis made the last shot at the buzzer for a total of 33 points and 6/10 threes and Wade Baldwin with 10 points was the only other scorer in double digits.
“This is how we have to win right now, we are not in full force and the numbers are constant in wins. we got to take down our turnovers and we have to rebound”, added satisfied coach Sarunas Jasikevicius for the whole team effort.
Facundo Campazzo, with 14 points, was Real Madrid‘s top scorer, but the team simply couldn’t keep up in the second half.
The “Whites” were frustrated, and that was more obvious than ever in Mario Hezonja’s ejection with a double technical foul and two minutes left in the game.
Fenerbahce with a 10-4 record can end up in the top spot of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague standings again, depending on the result between Olympiacos and Paris on Friday, while Madrid dropped to 6-8.
Fenerbahce in the driver’s seat
Real Madrid controlled the first period, leading 20-12 after 10 minutes of action. The tables were totally turned in the second, as Fenerbahce built a 37-28 lead with a partial score of 25-8.
Hayes-Davis had already scored 14 points and Campazzo managed to trim Fener‘s halftime lead to six (37-31) with a three.
Real Madrid continued their push and made it a two-point game (41-39) after two free throws by Campazzo. However, with the game on the line, Fenerbahce took over again to build an 11-point lead (52-41) after a three by Hayes-Davis.
At the end of the third period, Fenerbahce was up by 13 (60-47) and led by 16 with the first shot of the fourth quarter, again a three by Hayes-Davis.
Madrid couldn’t get closer than nine points (67-58, 76-67, 79-70) after that with the guests controlling the game.
