On a night of big games, there was also an exception. Zalgiris Kaunas won the 86-66 road win against ALBA in Berlin without much fuss.
Zalgiris moved to a 10-6 record, while the Germans dropped to 3-13.
Sylvain Francisco with 16 points and Lonnie Walker with 13 didn’t have to do anything spectacular and no other player of Zalgiris scored in double digits.
“We did a good job, but I have to make better reads”, said Walker after the game explaining, “A lot of teams will try to make me uncomfortable in the pick-and-roll and I have to make the right reads for the bigs, because when I start to make the right reads, the game opens up for myself”.
“We were focused enough, it’s a good way to start the double week because ALBA was coming off good games”, added Zalgiris coach Andrea Trinchieri.
For ALBA, David McCormack with 19 points was the top scorer.
A glorified practice
Zalgiris opened up the game leading 24-10 after the first quarter, extending their advantage to 18 points (28-10) at the start of the second and ALBA had already a mountain to climb.
The Germans simply couldn’t turn things around, trailing by 15 at halftime (45-30) and by 23 at the end of the third (69-46).
Zalgiris cruised until the end with no real pressure at any point of the game.
