Real Madrid is considering an addition to the roster in the form of Theo Maledon.
The resurfaced interest in the 23-year-old French point guard was reported by MARCA on Thursday.
A few weeks ago, Los Blancos evaluated the possibility of signing Maledon but fell short of meeting the financial demands of LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne on a necessary contract buyout, as noted in the report. A potential second attempt would be connected with trading out Xavier Rathan-Mayes to reduce the transfer cost, as revealed by Matteo Andreani and confirmed by MARCA.
The 23-year-old French guard is up to 18.8 points, 4.8 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game in the 2024-25 installment of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague over 16 appearances, all starts. Solid showings with ASVEL have been awarded with three MVP of the Round nods.
Selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 34th overall pick of the 2020 NBA draft, Maledon logged 177 games played with the Charlotte Hornets, Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns, before reuniting with his youth team, ASVEL, last August. Future options may include a return to the league based in North America.
Rathan-Mayes, 30, has fallen out of the rotation of head coach Chus Mateo through recent team outings in the EuroLeague and Spain’s Liga Endesa. The Canadian forward previously tallied 6.7 points, 1.5 assists, 1.1 rebounds, 0.7 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game over 14 appearances in the premier club continental competition of Europe.
