Major issues surface for Olympiacos due to rain creating trouble in the Peace and Friendship Stadium, SEF

Following Wednesday’s trip to Italy to face EA7 Emporio Armani Milan in Unipol Forum tonight, rain in Athens extended to Piraeus and affected the home venue of Olympiacos, the Peace and Friendship Stadium, SEF.

The shower persisting over the last few days led to floods inside the venue with damages from the court to the team-owned Cube. Emerging complications potentially affecting future home games for the Reds in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and Greece’s Stoiximan GBL furthered deeper into the facilities of the team gym and state-of-the-art equipment also owned by the team.

The leaking roof seems to indicate increasing problems.

Repairs will begin by cleaning the flooded areas but the early look seems concerning for the overall operation of the stadium.

Since 2022, SEF officials have requested various upgrades, focusing on insulation and cooling–heating. Those improvements to the state-owned stadium were initially rejected by the Greek government. Over the last 15 years, maintenance expenses have been reduced, leading to several issues that resurfaced in the worst way via the weather.

Following Round 18 of the 2024-25 EuroLeague Regular Season, the team coached by Giorgos Bartzokas is scheduled to welcome Lavrio DHI in SEF on Sunday. The Round 12 contest of the domestic league’s Regular Season is unlikely to be actually played in the Peace and Friendship Stadium.
Beyond the next fixture on the schedule, the extensive damage on the court and more areas put a question mark on the remaining home games as well.
