Zeljko Obradovic explained his position on the current situation in Serbia

Despite Partizan’s big win over Fenerbahce, the press conference after the game had another big issue to address.

Zeljko Obradovic expressed his support for the students’ protest in Serbia, as hundreds of university students have rallied in Belgrade to protest against the government policies that they blame for a railway disaster last month in which 15 people died.

Obradovic explained his position, stating that regardless of political parties, he will always support any movement that comes from the youth and address the fact that anti-government chants were heard during the game: “Everyone will interpret this in their way. I think when you watch the video, everything is clear, nothing needs to be explained. I said from the first day that I fight for fair play and that no one will be offended in our games and I will say it again. I ask the fans not to insult anyone. And I have always said that politics is the last thing that interests me. I will repeat, young people are the future of this country and every country. The way I am, almost 65 years old, I have my views and principles that I will never give up”.

Obradovic pointed out that he will probably not give any other interviews because he doesn’t want his statements to be interpreted in a political context: “What I said, I stand behind it and repeat – let everyone watch the interview and draw their own conclusions. Of course, it depends on anyone how to interpret this and now we are getting into something that I don’t want, which is politics. The interview says exactly what I said, and of course, there were extensions when you asked me about my wishes for the new year. What I would like is for this society, which is so divided, for people to finally start trusting each other, to lend a hand, to encourage, for there to be more empathy and love among us.”
