According to MARCA, Juancho Hernangómez is set to extend his stay with Panathinaikos.
The 29-year-old forward is reportedly on track to sign a two-year contract, keeping him with the Athens-based team beyond the expiration of his current deal on June 30.
A few hours later, Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos posted a photo of the player on his IG account, confirming the report and one day later, again on IG, he confirmed that there’s a deal for a two-year extension.
Giannakopoulos had already announced two contract extensions in his social media video for the signing of Wenyen Gabriel and as it turned out, he was referring to the Spanish forward and Mathias Lessort.
After a challenging first season at Panathinaikos, where Hernangómez faced difficulties and public criticism from coach Ergin Ataman, he has emerged as a key player for the team. This season, he’s been one of the most utilized players in the Euroleague, averaging over 23 minutes per game.
His performance has improved significantly, with averages of 8.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. This is a notable increase compared to last season, where he posted 4.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
