Panathinaikos got a night to remember from Omer Yurtseven, Kendrick Nunn simply can’t be denied and the Greens prevailed 111-90 over Virtus Segrafredo Bologna.
Yurtseven and Nunn scored 27 points each, as Panathinaikos jumped to a 12-7 record and the third spot of the standings, as Virtus dropped to 5-14.
It was all about offense with Juancho Hernangomez adding 16 points, Lorenzo Brown 12, and Cedi Osman having 11, as Panathinaikos made 19/32 threes.
“It was intentional, starting the game ready to go and I think that’s what it took for the win”, said Yurtseven who made 13 out of 16 field goals plus he had seven rebounds and three blocks.
It was the third time in the last four EuroLeague games in which Panathinaikos scored 100 or more points.
Will Clyburn in the first half was great, he finished the game with 25 points, but still, it was far from enough for the Italians.
No brakes for Panathinaikos
The first half was the shootout nobody expected with Yurtseven scoring a personal best 18 points on 9/10 FG plus getting six rebounds for the home side and Clyburn scoring 19 points on 5/7 threes.
Still, Panathinaikos was constantly in the lead with the score at the end of the first period being 30-23 and 54-42 at halftime by dominating the boards with a 16 vs 8 rebounding advantage.
The home charge continued with Panathinaikos pushing the lead to 16 points (67-51) and the third period ended with the Greens up by 13 (79-66).
Virtus managed to trim the advantage of the home side to six points (81-75) after an unsportsmanlike foul by Cedi Osman to Andrejs Grazulis only for Nunn to answer with back-to-back threes and Osman redeeming himself with one more to make it again a ten-point game (90-80).
Nunn scored again a three (93-80) entering the last five minutes and the game was over.
