Madrid celebrates Llull record with win over Bayern

Real Madrid got one more win and has a positive record for the first time in the season after prevailing over Bayern Munich

Sergio Lull’s record night couldn’t be anything else than a win for Real Madrid. The “Whites” beat Bayern Munich 88-76 and got to a 10-9 record by defending their home.

Dzanan Musa with 15 points, Mario Hezonja with 14, and Facundo Campazzo with 13 led a balanced effort, while Lull on his 426th EuroLeague game, became the All-Time Leader over Kyle Hines.

“The mentality changed and our roles, we didn’t rush something, we had a rough start and now we won four in a row”, said Campazzo before adding: “We have to improve if we want to fight for important things”. 

Bayern got 18 points from Carsen Edwards and 17 from Shabazz Napier but trailed from start to finish.

The Germans dropped to an 11-8 record, tied with Crvena Zvezda between the 6th and the 7th spot of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague standings.

Just under them, at 10-9, there’s a five-way tie between Madrid, Milan, Efes, Zalgiris, and Barcelona between the 8th and the 12th spot in the standings.

Madrid in control from start to finish

Madrid opened the night leading 23-16 after the first period and extending their advantage to 11 points (27-16). Bayern managed to react and momentarily trimmed the lead to five (33-28), but Real Madrid was firing at all cylinders.

Thanks to a 14-0 run, the hosts extended their advantage to 19 points (47-28), and at halftime, Bayern was down by 17 (47-30).

The Germans managed to trim the lead to 12 (62-50) at the end of the third period, making things a bit interesting. However, Madrid kept their distance opening the last period with five quick points (67-50).

Bayern didn’t back down and made it a nine-point game with a 10-2 run (69-60). The Germans even trimmed Madrid’s lead to seven points (78-71) with three minutes left after a three by Napier.

Abalde answered back with a two-pointer (80-71) and Madrid closed the game on a 9-2 run getting a solid 87-73 lead with with 52 seconds left.
