Milan is obviously on the rise, while Maccabi has its own issues. However, nobody expected that in the end, Milan would triumph by 33 points.
That was the case, with the final score 107-74 in favor of the guests who did whatever they wanted on the court, especially in the second half.
Shavon Shields with 18 points, Nikola Mirotic and Zach LeDay with 17 points each, and Armoni Brooks with 15 led a well-oiled machine to the win, while Maccabi was lagging.
“It was a good team win, everyone contributed, and we have to build on that”, said Shavon Shields after the game keeping a low tone despite the impressive final score.
Romain Sorkin scored 16 points and Levi Randolph added 15, but the Israelis had no hope for the win after the first 25 minutes of action.
The Italians have a solid 11-9 record after this result, while Maccabi dropped to 5-14.
Milan dominating
Milan was in control from wire to wire, opening the game with a 20-14 lead, after Marial Shayok trimmed the lead from eight (20-12) at the buzzer for Maccabi which tied the score at 12 and always trailed after that.
At halftime, the score was 45-37 for the Italians, who stretched their lead to 17 points (59-42) after 24 minutes of action with Shavon Shields reaching the 12-point mark.
With everything clicking, Milan built a 21-point advantage (71-50) and at the end of the third period, the score was 78-54 with Maccabi shooting 0/18 threes in three quarters, finishing the game with 1/21 threes.
It was a night to forget for Maccabi, which trailed by 38 points (102-64) and never had a chance for a comeback.
“We need to sit together, take responsibility, and I am the first one to do it, that’s my job, that’s my challenge right now”, admitted coach Oded Kattash.
