ASVEL beat Efes in coach Banchi’s debut

ASVEL got a big road win and Anadolu Efes despite changing their coach couldn’t avoid the defeat.

The French side prevailed in Istanbul 82-76 and also got the tiebreaker advantage with two wins over Efes.

Nando De Colo with 16 points and 4/4 threes was the top scorer of the winning side, Theo Maledon (photo) added 15 points and Tarik Black also scored 15 and grabbed seven assists.

Shane Larkin and Vincent Poirier with 14 points each for the losing side.

ASVEL now has a 9-11 record, while Efes dropped to 10-10.

ASVEL proving their character

ASVEL opened up the game with a 24-20 lead in the first period and even got a nine-point advantage (33-24) after 24 minutes of action.

However, at halftime, Efes was up by three (41-38) turning things around with a partial 17-5 score.

With two threes by Larkin and Osmani, the hosts extended their advantage to nine points (47-38) and then to 11 (57-46) taking control of the game.

Still, ASVEL trimmed the lead to five (66-61) with Tarik Black dunking at the buzzer of the third period.

De Colo scored his fourth three in the fourth attempt to make the score 66-64 opening the last quarter and the game was again on the line.

It was the start of a comeback as ASVEL got the 75-70 after a 9-2 run, but with two minutes left Shane Larkin from the free throws line made it a one-point game (75-74).

ASVEL created some distance again (79-74) and it was enough.
