Real Madrid gets crucial win in Kaunas and the advantage

One of the biggest wins of Zalgiris this season was in Madrid. So Real Madrid had an extra motivation to prove that their back for good.

Real Madrid prevailed 83-64 in an off night for Zalgiris Kaunas, while Sylvain Fransisco was injured stepping on the foot of Dzanan Musa and played less than three minutes.

Musa with 17 points and Serge Ibaka with 13 were the top scorers of the winning side, while Facundo Campazzo (photo) added 13 points.

Lonnie Walker with 17 points was the only scorer in double digits for the home side, which dropped to 10-10 and out of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague standings Top10, while Madrid now has an 11-9 record and the tiebreaking advantage over the Lithuanians.

Real’s revenge

Zalgiris dominated the first period, leading by 11 (26-15) and proving that at home they don’t back down to anyone.

However, Real Madrid opened up the second quarter with a 15-2 run, getting a 30-28 lead and turning the game upside down while Fransisco was injured.

At halftime, Madrid was up by one (35-34) and Zalgiris had scored just eight points in 10 minutes.

The home said tried to change the momentum at the start of the second half, getting a 39-35 with two quick shots by Lonny Walker, but Madrid reacted immediately.

The guests got first a 47-41 lead with a 12-2 run, while Musa reached the 15-point mark and then created an 11-point advantage (55-44).

The two teams entered the last quarter with Zalgiris trailing by nine (55-46), but with two threes one by Serge Ibaka and one by Andres Feliz the lead jumped for the first time to 15 points (61-46).

Eli NDiaye added four more points and Lull had a goal foul for a 13-0 Madrid run (68-46) and a 22-point lead, which decided the game.
