There’s no easy game in the EuroLeague, especially against Bayern. However, this was the night of Sasha Vezenkov and Olympiacos.
The superstar of the Reds scored 45 points on 8/10 threes, plus 10/10 two-pointers, and the Greeks are left all alone on the top of the standings after beating Bayern Munich 112-69.
It was the third-best scoring output in the modern EuroLeague and the best-ever performance of an Olympiacos player in the history of the competition.
On top of that, last season’s semifinalists are the only team with a 14-6 record, while Bayern dropped to 11-9.
Olympiacos was missing captain Kostas Papanikolaou and French star Evan Fournier, but this ended up being a sidenote.
One Vezenkov-show
Olympiacos had a a great start in the game with a 21-4 run which set the tone for the rest of the night.
The home side led by 18 (27-9) and then by 14 at the end of the first period (28-14) with Bayern finally taking charge and trimming the lead to nine (35-26) after a thunderous dunk by Devin Booker in the second quarter.
Still, Olympiacos was rolling, closing the first half up by 14 (51-37) and keeping things in control with Sasha Vezenkov scoring 16 points already.
That was just a sign of things to come. Bayern once more closed the gap to 11 points (58-47) but with Vezenkov scoring at will, Olympiacos entered the last period leading by 79-57.
The former EuroLeague MVP was simply unstoppable on the way to a record night, Olympiacos led even by 45 points (109-64) and the game ended up being a demonstration of power by the home side.
