Olympiacos Piraeus point guard and reigning EuroLeague DPOY Thomas Walkup will make the road trip to Spain for the games vs. Baskonia (Tuesday, 14/1) and Real Madrid (Thursday, 16/1) but it’s unknown if he will be able to actually join the team on the floor.
“Thomas Walkup will be with us for sure but it’s doubtful if he’ll play,” Olympiacos coach Giorgos Bartzokas said after the Greek League win over Karditsa. “He’s been undergoing therapy. Overall, we don’t know if he’ll play. Right now, he’s extremely doubtful for the game against Baskonia.”
Walkup played only in the first five minutes in the blowout victory over Bayern Munich due to a muscle spasm. So far this season, he’s averaging a team-high 4.6 assists along with 4.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals.
Olympiacos beat Karditsa behind 18 points and nine rebounds by Nikola Milutinov to improve to 13-1. Tyler Dorsey had 14 points and four steals.
“When a player performs well, there’s none happier than the coach,” said Bartzokas when asked about Dorsey who hasn’t been any real minutes in the EuroLeague, unlike in the Greek League. “Tyler hasn’t been in a good condition after his injury and he must return to the previous levels of confidence, athleticism and intensity in his game for the EuroLeague. The Greek League games can be used for him to return to form.”
