Shortly after officially confirming a strong interest in 2025 NBA draft prospect Dame Sarr, Trapani Shark announced via team president Valerio Antonini a breakdown in talks with FC Barcelona about potentially securing the services of the promising youngster on loan for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
On Sunday, his reaction via a post on his X account included several strikes at the handling of the situation by the remaining interested parties.
“After practically making fools of us (myself, the Coach, and the Sporting Director), especially through that ‘phenomenal’ agent of his, Andrea Grassi, now tells us that he’s just discovered he has to wait until March 12, 2025, to obtain Spanish player status. What good would that do him anyway? Considering he already has an Italian passport? In short, they’ve deceived us. Contracts were prepared and signed by us on Friday evening, and after lie upon lie, they never arrived. It’s an absolute disgrace. But it’s their loss, certainly not ours. He’ll continue with limited playing time with Barcelona, and we’ll surely find someone better,” wrote Antonini.
Looking to boost a bid for a selection in the next NBA draft, Sarr, a native of Treviso and recently capped with the senior national team of Italy, averaged 1.4 points in approximately four minutes per contest over eight appearances in the ongoing season of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. Over five games played in Spain’s Liga Endesa, his efforts amount to 1.2 points per contest.
