Dennis Smith Jr. officially signs a contract with Real Madrid

Upon passing the necessary medical tests, Dennis Smith Jr. completed a move to Real Madrid.

Smith, 27, signed a contract for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, the team announced on Thursday.

Per the press release: “Real Madrid C. F. have reached an agreement with North American point guard Dennis Smith Jr. to join the club until the end of the season.

Picked by Dallas Mavericks in the 2017 NBA Draft, Dennis Smith Jr. was part of the second best rookie five in his first season in the USA. After spending time with the Dallas Mavericks, where he shared his second campaign with madridista legend Luka Doncic, he went on to play for the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Portland Trail Blazers, Charlotte Hornets and Brooklyn Nets. At 27 years of age, Dennis Smith Jr. joins the club after 7 seasons in the NBA.”

A veteran of 326 NBA games, he landed in the capital of Spain on Wednesday for physicals before penning the deal with the storied club and officially launching his first overseas experience.

Joining forces with Alberto Abalde, Facundo Campazzo, Gabriel Deck, Andres Feliz, Usman Garuba, Hugo Gonzalez, Mario Hezonja, Serge Ibaka, Sergio Llull, Dzanan Musa, Eli Ndiaye, Xavier Rathan-Mayes, and Walter Tavares, he meets the team coached by Chus Mateo at 12-9 in the 2024-25 Turkish Airlines Regular Season and 12-4 in Spain’s Liga Endesa Regular Season. Besides the continental and domestic leagues, Madrid has qualified for the midseason Copa del Rey.
