Facundo Campazzo gets EuroLeague MVP of the Round nod

Facundo Campazzo prevailed in the race for the latest Most Valuable Player award in the 2024-25 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season.

Euroleague Basketball named the 33-year-old guard of Real Madrid as MVP of Round 21 on Thursday.

Standing out in a high-scoring affair opposite Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv in Movistar Arena on Tuesday, Campazzo piled up 31 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and three steals.

Generating a Performance Index Rating of 43, he topped all players in action on Tuesday and Wednesday, thus claiming the MVP award.

Per the press release: “A career-high performance in a record-breaking victory allowed Facundo Campazzo of Real Madrid to earn Round 21 MVP honors with a PIR of 43.

Campazzo led Real to a 116-113 home victory over Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv in what was the highest-scoring non-overtime game in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague history. He had a season-high 31 points on 5-of-7 two-pointers, 4-of-7 three-pointers and 9-of-10 free throws, adding 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals and 8 fouls drawn for a PIR of 43, a new career high. Campazzo earned MVP of the Round honors for the third time in his career and is the second Real player to achieve this feat this season, as Walter Tavares was Round 12’s MVP with a PIR of 39 in a 90-97 road victory over FC Barcelona.

Tyrique Jones of Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade amassed a PIR of 29 in his team’s 62-93 road victory over LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne. Jones had 22 points on 9-of-10 two-pointers, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals, a block and 6 fouls drawn.

Nikola Mirotic of EA7 Emporio Armani Milan and Nigel Williams-Goss of Olympiacos Piraeus each had a PIR of 28 in Round 21. Mirotic led Milan to a 100-68 home win over ALBA Berlin with 21 points on 3-of-3 two-pointers and 4-of-7 three-pointers, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 4 fouls drawn. Williams-Goss had 19 points, 2 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals and 9 fouls drawn in a 101-102 overtime road win over Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Vincent Poirier of Anadolu Efes Istanbul, Rokas Jokubaitis of Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, Isaia Cordinier of Virtus Segafredo Bologna, Nigel Hayes-Davis of Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul and Jabari Parker of FC Barcelona, each with a PIR of 27, complete the top individual performances in Round 21.

Facundo Campazzo of Real Madrid was this round’s top scorer with 31 points. Sasha Vezenkov of Olympiacos is the new scoring leader with 20.5 points per game.

Efes center Vincent Poirier led all rebounders by pulling down 11 in Round 21. Walter Tavares of Real Madrid ranks first overall with 7.7 boards per night.

Carlik Jones of Partizan dished a round-high 9 assists. Tamir Blatt of Maccabi is the EuroLeague’s assists leader with 7.8 dimes per game.

Partizan center Tyrique Jones collected 4 steals, more than anyone in Round 21. Nick Weiler-Babb of FC Bayern Munich leads the overall standings with 1.7 steals per contest.

Another Partizan player, Isaac Bonga, had 3 blocks in this round. Poirier and Georgios Papagiannis of AS Monaco are tied atop the standings (1.33 bpg.), with Tavares right behind (1.29 bpg.)

Three players had respective double-doubles in Round 21: Poirier (14 points, 11 rebounds), Baskonia’s Donta Hall (11 rebounds, 10 assists) and Panathinaikos’s Juancho Hernangomez (12 points, 10 rebounds).
