A ban from attending games and several fines by the Greek Sports Judge on Dimitris Giannakopoulos remained unaltered following the rejection of appeals filed by the team owner of Panathinaikos Aktor.
The Greek Supreme Council for the Resolution of Sports Disputes announced the decisions on Friday.
Consequently, Giannakopoulos can not watch games in person until June 12, at the end of a ban stretching to 12 months through various infractions and three separate sanctions.
Giannakopoulos, 50, received a ban of three months and a fine of 30,000 euros for social media posts on his Instagram account on June 26 constituting defamation of the sport, and an additional fine of 50,000 euros for actions and statements.
An eight-month ban from attending games and a fine of 35,000 euros were imposed due to actions and statements during and after the end of the deciding Game 5 of Greece’s Stoiximan GBL championship series against Olympiacos on June 14 constituting defamation of the sport.
A three-month ban for actions and statements constituting defamation of the sport was recently reduced to one month upon another appeal which resulted in the suspension of the above sanctions until the decision of the Supreme Council.
The Greens intend to submit paperwork to request a merge of the penalties, hoping to lift the ban in February.
A further appeal will be made through the administrative court that considers disputes with public power.
Through the 2024-25 continental and domestic campaigns, the team coached by Ergin Ataman carries a 13-8 record in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season and is tied in third place of the standings, 2.5 games behind archrival and leader Olympiacos, and remains undefeated after 14 games in the GBL.
