Zalgiris came back to Kaunas after two consecutive losses on the road in the EuroLeague, to Fenerbahce and Panathinaikos. Entering Round 24 against Bayern Munich, they lost five of their previous six games, winning only at home against Virtus Bologna.

However, since the first half, Gordon Herbert’s team looked superior, especially in the attitude shown on the court of Zalgirio Arena. “We are in a very tough moment, everything looks difficult. We’re under great stress. I believe we were good in the third, but then we made a couple of mistakes and they made three big threes in a row. That killed us emotionally”, Trinchieri reacted in the flash interview.

“Before being a basketball coach, I’m a human being. What happened at the end of the game touched me much,” Andrea Trinchieri opened in the post-game. “Having this unconditional support from all the fans, the Zalgiris fans, on a night when you don’t deserve this – because we don’t deserve this kind of treatment – makes my brain open like a drawer,” he added.

The Italian head coach then spoke about the team’s performance. “I know exactly what kind of situation we have. We have a lot of basketball problems. But what we can analyze is the very poor game we had from energy and rebounding. We didn’t grab one single 50-50 ball. It was enough to make a cut to the basket for Bayern players to make a layup,” Trinchieri said.

“I wanna think and believe that happened because things aren’t going in the right way. We came into this game with all the best intentions, without being able to display them. There’s always a separation between intention and action,” Zalgiris Kaunas’ head coach said.

Later on, he said he’s open to “everything” when it comes to changing elements on the roster. “The situation is bad and frustrating. It’s a game where we leave some scarves. I will just fo and follow the message our fans sent me. Now, only the ones who deserve this kind of unconditional support will wear the green jersey. In this moment, I can’t do differently,” Trinchieri commented.

“It’s something that really hit me deep in my soul because I’m a very objective person and I know exactly what kind of game we played. It’s like when in the storm there’s a hole in the cloud and you see the smallest and tiniest sun,” he added.

Asked about Lonnie Walker, who looked injured during the game after having slipped on one sticker, he answered unclearly. “He was sick this morning, had fa ever. Then he came and got hit. I don’t know,” he said.
