A great second quarter proved to be enough for Paris Basketball against ASVEL for the 91-82 win.
TJ Shorts and company once more managed to keep their distance against an opponent from the same country, as Maodo Lo scored 18 points, Tyson Ward had 16 points and seven rebounds, Nadir Hifi got 14, and Shorts added 13 points, six assists, and no turnovers.
“We found the way to get the win, we have been in those positions before and it went the other way”, said Shorts about ASVEL getting back into the game in the third period.
Paris with a solid 14-10 record remains on course for the postseason, while ASVEL at 11-13 lost valuable ground in the race.
Andre Roberson with 20 points was the top scorer of the guests, Theo Maledon had 18 points, six assists, and four turnovers, but couldn’t save the day, while Joffrey Lauvergne added 12 points and Nando De Colo had 10.
Paris in control
Playing at home, Paris couldn’t be denied, getting a 20-15 lead after the first period and extending it to 14 points (54-40) at halftime.
Hifi already had 14 points in 10 minutes of action and Lo added 10 in seven, while ASVEL tried to keep up shooting 42% in two-pointers and 35,7% in threes.
Roberson with 11 first-half points on 3/3 threes was the only scorer in double digits for the guests.
With Roberson continuing his scoring spree and making two more threes, ASVEL trimmed the lead to five (60-55) after five minutes of action in the third quarter and even made it a three-point game (67-64) before Shorts closed the period giving to Paris a five-point cushion (69-64).
However, the last quarter opened with a 10-2 run for Paris as Ward scored two crucial threes (79-66).
There was no coming back for ASVEL after that with Paris controlling the game until the end.
