After arriving early in the 2024-25 campaign, Skylar Mays left Fenerbahce Beko.
The team based in Istanbul announced his departure on Friday, ending the first overseas experience of the former Louisiana State standout.
Mays, 27, logged 14 appearances, including two starts in the ongoing edition of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, tallying 3.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.1 blocks per contest. At the domestic level, he averaged 7.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game over ten appearances in the Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi.
Securing his services in October, Fener was looking for a replacement at the point with Scottie Wilbekin being ruled out for the remainder of the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee and undergoing surgery. However, Mays fell shy of effectively covering for the 31-year-old point guard.
Back in 2020, the Atlanta Hawks drafted the Baton Rouge native with the 50th overall pick of the NBA draft. Over the next four seasons, Mays went on to record 115 appearances in the league based in North America, spread from the Hawks to the Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers. He also joined the Minnesota Timberwolves during the Preseason, shortly before using his overseas options to expand his career in Europe’s premier club continental competition via Fenerbahce.
At 15-7 with 12 fixtures remaining in the schedule, the team coached by Sarunas Jasikevicius ranks second in the EuroLeague table, half a game behind Olympiacos.
