Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet is currently tied for the 5th spot in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, however, this doesn’t change the approach of the team and coach Giannis Sfairopoulos on the season.
As the Greek coach explained after the Belgrade derby: “My players had a great desire for the win, we won most of the 50-50 balls and we also had 15 offensive rebounds, which shows our desire for the win. It’s a big win, but it’s only one, we have 10 more games until the end of the regular season. This is how we will continue”.
Sfairopoulos doesn’t want his team to let its guard down and that’s why when he was asked how Zvezda will approach two upcoming “easy” games against ASVEL and ALBA, he corrected the question: “There’s no easy game. Did you see Maccabi vs ALBA yesterday? So there’s no easy game”.
Zvezda’s coach was also asked about the performance of Petrusev who was the top scorer of his team with 17 points and proved one more that he is a perfectionist: “We know how talented Petrusev is, he is very talented and he can play even better. He is dominant in our game, we are happy he is here. I believe he can play better on defense and I expect him to have also defensive impact”.
However, Sfairopoulos also congratulated his players for the result and their performance: “I want to congratulate our players for the big win, it’s not an easy game for both teams but we believed a lot before the game that we could do something good tonight. We controlled the game for the most part with the defense that we played, we stopped Partizan’s offense. We were up for most of the game, for sure Partizan has the quality, they also got the lead, but we didn’t lose our focus and we didn’t panic”.
And Zvezda’s play satisfied not only the coach but also their fans, especially those who were present in the gym and Sfairopoulos didn’t forget them: “I want to thank our fans who were here and supported us and I think that we made them happy today”.
