Real Madrid swingman Dzanan Musa is on an expiring contract and the Spanish powerhouse appears to be uncertain about re-signing the player.
According to Marca, Real Madrid has “doubts” over renewing Musa’s contract that expires on June 30. Per the report, a main reason why the Blancos are hesitant to proceed to such a move is what the club considers as lackluster contribution in big games by the player.
This EuroLeague season, Musa is averaging 12.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists while Real Madrid has an underwhelming run so far, standing at 13-13. The team recently suffered an upset with a defeat to Unicaja Malaga in the Copa del Rey Final. Musa, who was just coming back from an ankle injury, had 0-4 shots in that game.
Musa has been one of the top performers for Real Madrid since he joined the team in summer 2002 after being named ACB MVP with Obradoiro. He finished the previous season as the team’s co-leading scorer (along with Mario Hezonja) in the EuroLeague, posting 13.5 points together with 2.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
In the Final Four, Musa had 20 points in the semifinal win over Olympiacos Piraeus and 15 (1-6 triples) points, five rebounds and four assists in the loss to Panathinaikos Athens in the championship game. He was later named MVP of the ACB Finals as Real won the title.
