Panathinaikos Athens is trying to sign EuroLeague veteran center Tibor Pleiss from Italian club Trapani Shark according to SDNA.
Pleiss, a former two-time EuroLeague champion (2021, 2022) with Anadolu Efes under current Panathinaikos coach Ergin Ataman, is under a contract with Trapani that expires at the end of the season. Per SDNA’s report, the German big man is “pushing” for Trapani to let him join the Greens.
The transfer deadline in EuroLeague expires on February 26 at 18:00 CET, a day before Round 27 tips off.
Panathinaikos was looking to add an extra body to the team’s frontline lineup. Centers Mathias Lessort and Omer Yurtseven are injured while Kostas Antetokounmpo’s exit from the club earlier in February, left only Wenyen Gabriel at the “5” position.
Pleiss, 35, is averaging 6.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in 14.2 minutes over 18 games of the 2024-25 Italian League.
From 2018 to 2023, Pleiss played under Ataman at Efes. He had another stint with the team last season before moving to Trapani.
Apart from Efes, Pleiss had EuroLeague stints with such teams as Brose Bamberg, Baskonia, Barcelona, Galatasaray and Valencia. In 2015-16, he played 12 games in the NBA with the Utah Jazz.
