Olympiacos prevailed over Panathinaikos in the EuroLeague, and Saben Lee made his debut in the Greek derby.
After the game, the former Manisa and Maccabi Tel Aviv player shared his thoughts.
“Happy we were able to get the win. I wish I could have played a little better, but I’m just happy to be out there,” Lee said.
At one point, he had a notable reaction toward Panathinaikos‘ bench.
“There was some chirping from the bench when I was about to shoot. I don’t know who said something, but it’s part of the competition—it was cool. I didn’t hear exactly what was said, but I was sure it wasn’t positive.”
During the match, Olympiacos fans encouraged him to shoot rather than pass the ball.
“I know people want me to get my scoring going, and it’s going to come in time. I’m just trying to get to know the guys, learn the plays, and keep improving my offense at the same time.”
The former Phoenix Suns guard admits he’ll need some time to adjust to his new team.
“I’m excited and looking forward to it. Coming here to the No. 1 team, playing good basketball, and winning a lot of games—I want to be myself, but I also didn’t want to come here and disrupt what was already helping the team. I’m all in for winning, sacrificing myself for victories. Over time, I’ll keep improving and get more involved in the offense.”
He’s well known for his tattoos, so one day, he might even ink something Olympiacos-related onto his skin.
“For sure, maybe one day, if I’m here long enough, I’ll think about that,” Lee concluded after his first Greek derby—and, more importantly, a win with Olympiacos over Panathinaikos.
