Following an official protest by Olympiacos, revealed by Eurohoops on Saturday, for an obscene gesture by Kendrick Nunn during the meeting with Panathinaikos Aktor in Round 29 of the 2024-25 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season, Euroleague Basketball opened a disciplinary procedure for the 29-year-old guard of the Greens.
The Reds provided footage showing Nunn raising his middle fingers. They requested a penalty based on the disciplinary regulations of Euroleague Basketball. After considering the evidence, the competition’s independent sports judge can decide on a possible punishment for Nunn.
The incident occurred a after a dunk late in the third quarter with Olympiacos up by a margin of ten points. However, his gesture initially went unnoticed during the coverage of the latest edition of the derby of eternal enemies in Greece.
The above was accompanied by Panathinaikos officially protesting about decisions made by the referees, Damir Javor, Uros Nikolic, and Jakub Zamojski, in the Peace and Frienship Stadium on Friday evening. Adding to the complicated fallout, head coaches Giorgos Bartzokas and Ergin Ataman exchanged words between a postgame media session and a statement via social media.
Ending up with a narrow win in SEF, the team coached by Bartzokas improved a league-high tally to 22-7 and all but secured first place in the final standings of the Regular Season. With five games left in the double-legged round-robin schedule leading to the postseason, Fenerbahce Beko is two games away and Ataman’s side fell into a distance of four games.
