Carsen Edwards scored 25 points, and Bayern got the 89-74 win.
Ultimately, that’s what counts, even if the final score doesn’t tell the story of the game, which was more than close for three periods, but in the end, Bayern managed to close it more than right.
The bottom line is that the Germans now have a 19-13 record and the 5th spot, while Partizan dropped to 16-16 and remains tied with Milan for the 11th spot, one step outside the play-ins.
Carlik Jones, with 19 points and 10 assists, had a hell of a night; however, in the last five minutes of the game, nobody could score for the Serbs when it mattered the most.
“We were searching for energy for the first 27 minutes; fortunately, our group at the end of the third quarter did a great job. We were down by six to eight points, they came in, we tied the game going to the fourth, and they took off,” Gordon Herbert said.
Defense in the end
Partizan imposed their tempo in the first period, leading 23-21 after the end of the first period and extending their advantage to nine points (35-26), with defense being the name of the game in the first 15 minutes.
Still, playing at home, Bayern found the way to the basket and trimmed the lead to two (44-42) at halftime.
Things changed in the second half, with Bayern picking up the tempo and also playing better defense.
The two teams entered the last quarter with the Germans leading by two (65-63), however, Partizan scored just 11 points in the fourth period and couldn’t keep up with Bayern.
To be exact, Bayern was up by four (74-70) with five minutes left, and Partizan scored just four points in the remaining time until the final buzzer.
“Bayern played at the level they’ve played all season. In the last quarter, we didn’t play defense. We finished with only two fouls,” Zeljko Obradovic commented.
