Olympiacos coach Giorgos Bartzokas addressed an incident that took place after the loss of his team to AS Monaco when a fan swore at him.
“I don’t know if the people should be worried because we’ll definitely finish at least third in the standings. It may be justified to enter a state of introversion but I don’t think it’s logical and fair to the players. Someone swore at me while I was leaving the floor. It’s OK, I’m used to this. I hope all this will be a distant memory,” Bartzokas said in the post-game presser.
The fan was identified and briefly detained by the police before he was released.
Olympiacos suffered their straight defeat in the EuroLeague. The Reds were unable to make shots, finishing with 19 out of 33 free throws and 4 out of 2- triples.
“Unfortunately for us it was a very strange night,” Bartzokas also mentioned. “The result was what we deserved. When you got 14 missed free throws in such a close game… you can’t win with those numbers. We have to restart and the absent players to return because we use lineups that we aren’t used in them playing together. Congratulations to Monaco and we wait for our next challenge.”
“It’s hasn’t been ever explained in the history of basketball what’s the reason a team misses so many free throws,” Bartzokas added. “There’s nothing at stake. We were coming off two losses and we wanted to return to wins. Did we have pressure because of this? When we were up 9 points we took bad decisions.”
