After the EuroLeague itself and ELPA, the EuroLeague Players Association, the EuroLeague Head Coaches Board also presents its position towards the exploration by FIBA and the NBA of the possible creation of a new league in Europe.
Per the press release: “The EuroLeague Head Coaches Board (EHCB) continues to support the direction for the future of our sport, expressed by the EuroLeague Commercial Assets (ECA) Board of Directors after the meeting on Monday, April 7, 2025.
As the coaches of the most successful ever continental competition of Europe, which has shaped the basketball landscape in the continent and beyond for a quarter of a century, we believe that the future for the sport in Europe is more than bright and we are just starting to scratch the potential that basketball has in Europe.
For 25 years, the EuroLeague has been at the forefront of this evolution, creating a true league that includes every basketball bastion all over Europe and remains open to anyone willing to share this vision.
With a unique blend of on-court talent and fan engagement, EuroLeague is recognized worldwide as top-level basketball. This fierce brand of play, combined with the devotion of a huge fanbase towards their clubs, can’t be replicated.
While we are not shy about voicing our opinions and believe that even more progress can be made, we can’t underestimate what has already been achieved on and off the court.
That’s why we remind everyone that teamwork is important; we teach that to our players, and that’s the only way to achieve magnificent goals. Synergies with any interested parties that want the progress of the sport can’t be excluded, provided that they respect what has already been achieved and want to build on it.
We strongly believe that EuroLeague remains the best league in the world outside North America, that European basketball is on the rise even beyond its borders, and this should be respected with actions and not by words”.
