Olympiacos Piraeus guard Nigel Williams-Goss was the one to hit the shot that more or less was the dagger for his team in the win over Real Madrid for Game 2 of the EuroLeague playoffs.
“It felt good,” Williams-Goss told Eurohoops. Until that bucket, he was 1 out of 6 from the field. “Obviously my shots weren’t falling tonight. It just seem I was a bit out of rhythm. In these kind of moments you want to do anything to help the team win. Just to help us man. Just to feel I was part of this victory, it was big for me.”
Williams-Goss’ triple made it 73 – 64 for Olympiacos with 1:03 remaining. After trailing for the larger part of the game, the Reds won 77 – 71 and are one win away from the Final Four.
“Super tough game tonight,” Williams-Goss mentioned. “Glad of the way we stuck together after not playing our best. We stuck together and we pulled off a tough one. It’s the first of three, not two. We still got a long way to go.”
Williams-Goss also added that they expected Real Madrid to be stronger in Game 2 compared to Game 1.
“100 percent,” the American guard mentioned. “No team wants to go down 0-2, especially a team with a character like that. We knew it’s going to be a more intense game. We didn’t handle it the way I did. Like I said, we stuck together.”
For one more match, Williams-Goss was tasked with guarding Real Madrid playmaker Facu Campazzo. The Olympiacos player explained what is the toughest part in defending against such a crafty opponent.
“He’s a lot of smaller than I am. He has a lot of tricks to his game. He’s really good at drawing fouls. It’s just about being smart. Finding a balance of being aggressive defensively, but not picking on fouls”
