Laboral Kutxa is on the verge of making it to the Euroleague playoffs and Darius Adams certainly has been playing a key part in this. With 12.2 points and 3.8 assists per game, the American point guard is definitely one of the players that have set the wheels of the Basques in such an impressive motion.

Adams gave an interview for the official website of Baskonia where he talked about the road he traveled until becoming a pro player in Europe, learning to fight as the underdog, his special relationship with his mother and what basketball means to him.

“I’ve always been very competitive, relentless, dedicated and motivated. I hate to lose. When I am in the gym I don’t think about nothing else than basketball. It is a stress reliever. A lot of players I know are like that. They focus on the game and not their problems.  It’s a therapeutic thing”.

“My journey has been tough. Nothing was ever given to me. I’ve always had to prove myself because I was the underdog in every situations. In high school? I wasn’t playing at first. In college? I was playing, but not so much, until I became one of the key players”

“I came from a small city, having big dreams. I think i am the person that has been the furthest from my city the person who made it the furthest playing basketball. I don’t know where I would be without my mother. She was taking me to practices, coming to my games, made sure that I had nice basketball shoes. She raised me to be the person that I am today. I am grateful that I have her to look up to. That’s the person who I want to be thankful for and the one who I want to show the most”

“I have a tattoo of my brother. My best friend. He passed away when I was a senior in college. He always had faith in me. From the beginning, he was saying me that I am going to do something good in basketball and that I will be in NBA.  He kept his faith and I lost him before I got further in my career. He has been so motivational”.

“Being a leader is one of the things I wanted to do. So far we are doing much better that we are doing last year. The team chemistry is the key to our team. We have opportunities to confidence to correct our mistakes”

“Basketball is an amazing game. I am glad they came with that sport. Without it I wouldn’t have done the things I have done. It got me through college, viewing the world. Taking care of my family and my kids. Giving back to my mother. My life it was a struggle and she made the best things happen for me. I never thought that I would be in Europe when I was growing up. Playing basketball is something I love to do.”
