If we should pick the most memorable aspect of the 2003/2004 Euroleague season, then we can’t go with anything else, other than Arvydas Sabonis’ last show before closing the curtain of his magnificent career.

After leaving the Portland Trail Blazers, the Lithuanian giant (in a literal and non-literal sense) chose to spend one year in his beloved Zalgiris Kaunas before retiring. Despite the fact that he was 39 years old, legendary Sabas finished the season averaging 16.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 blocks per game.

These numbers reach some serious “insanity” levels, yet the Lithuanian legend produced them almost effortlessly. Naturally, he was named MVP of the Regular Season and MVP of the Top 16, leading Zalgiris Kaunas so very incredibly close to the Final Four. Who knows what would have happened if not for one of the most characteristically history-changing shots ever in Euroleague.

Even though not even a 15-minute highlight reel can capture the brilliance that Arvydas Sabonis brought on court during his last season as a professional player, it can certainly give you a taste of the remarkable, behind the game provided by the “miracle of nature”.
