Omer Onan, Assistant General Manager of Fenerbahce, expressed the full support of his team to Euroleague, also stating that the club will stand beside any team that might receive sanctions from the Turkish Basketball Federation.
“You keep asking about FIBA and Euroleague. Fenerbahce supports Euroleague 100%”, said Onan during the media day of Fenerbahce for the upcoming Final Four tournament in Berlin. “There is a system here and will keep with it. About FIBA…. they are putting pressure on other clubs. But we believe that Euroleague and Eurocup organizations are better and that they will improve basketball.
He then mentioned that Fenerbahce is ready to intervene, along with Euroleague, if the Turkish Basketball Federation decides to disqualify a team from the league. “If the federation makes a decision against a Turkish team then we will take action with Euroleague. We won’t back down against threats. Tournaments will not be held with the mentality of the… 1970s! We believe that Euroleague is the best basketball organization after the NBA”.
In the end, Omer Onan explained the ambitions of Fenerbahce and Zeljko Obradovic‘s role in them “We have long term plans. That’s why we are working with the best coach in Europe”.
