This season, the one to present the “Alphonso Ford award” to the best scorer in Euroleague, Nando De Colo, was no other than Alfonso Ford Jr. The late Ford’s son.
Obviously emotional after the whole experience, Alfonso Ford told Eurohoops that “It was a little bit overwhelming watching these pictures of my father, when he was a player on the screen”. He then added: “Of course I felt great honor presenting the award that has his name to the top scorer in Euroleague. It’s great being among so many people that remember him. People truly loved him”.
What are the memories that Ford has from his father as a player? “I was a kid back then, but there’s one thing I specifically remember: That he was a hard worker. Every day and in every single thing that had to do with basketball. Even the smallest detail mattered to him and he paid attention to it”.
“If I had to choose where he played better basketball I would name Peristeri, Olympiacos and Montepaschi Siena”, continue commenting Alfonso Ford Jr. “But I think that it was in Olympiacos where he felt better in general. He loved that team. And now, when I see the videos from his games there, I really understand why”.
