The German team improved to an 8-13 record in the standings, while forcing the Israeli team to fall to 7-14.
Janis Strelnieks led the winners with 25 points and 4 assists, Darius Miller followed with 17.
For Maccabi, Andrew Goudelock’s 22-point performance wasn’t enough to save the team in the final quarter.
Fabien Causeur opened the game with a 3-pointer for the hosts, then the two teams were head to head until 7′, when Pnini initiated a 9-2 run for the visitors, putting Maccabi up 16-21 after 10 minutes.
Goudelock gave a 31-38 lead to his team at 17′, then the hosts started cutting the deficit. Maodo Lo (13 points) hit a pair of free throws to place Andrea Trinchieri’s team just 2 points behind the visitors at halftime, 41-43.
In the third quarter, Bamberg covered Maccabi’s short lead and the Germans’ outburst started with Strelnieks midway through the period. After 30 minutes, the hosts stayed up 66-53.
The hosts entered the final period with an obvious advantage and managed to restore the deficit to double digits even when Maccabi tried to make a comeback. Darius Miller made it a 12-point game at 35′, yet soon Maccabi approached to 6. Still, Bamberg stayed strong until the very end and grabbed an important victory.
