An extraordinary individual first quarter by Sergio Llull gave Real Madrid all the momentum it needed to extend its EuroLeague winning streak to 9-0 by beating Darussafaka Dogus 101 – 83.
Real leads the standings at a 18 – 5 record while Dacka is currently out of the playoffs zone with 11 – 12. Mainly because of Llull’s shenanigans.
The Spanish guard fired one “mandarina” after the other in the first quarter finishing the period with 19 (!) points (5/6 3s) as his team got a 30 – 14. He overall scored 26 points, tying his second-best record of the season and dishing out 8 assists.
With this powered-up momentum from Llull’s action, Real proceeded to close the halftime ahead 53 – 37 with Othello Hunter (14 points) and Anthony Randolph (13 points) joining the offensive party of the Blancos.
James Anderson’s scoring (18 points) and Ante Zizic’s heroics inside the paint (11 points, 10 rebounds) were effective enough to help trim their team’s deficit to nine, 69 – 60 with 3 minutes left in the third period.
Real reacted with a 6-0 run to close the quarter and then made it a 20-point game, 81 – 61. With Brad Wanamaker (15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists) Adrien Moerman (9 points, 4 rebounds) hitting some downtown shots, Dacka remained persistent and had a chance to cut the deficit into single-digits after Anderson won a questionable unsportsmanlike foul for the 93 – 83.
That wasn’t the case though since his team went scoreless after that. Meanwhile, Llull sealed his team win with one of his… classic long range buckets.
