With Valencia and Unica Malaga facing each other in the Eurocup final, EuroLeague may have five Spanish clubs next season, or a wild card to give.

According to EuroLeague rules, the winner of the Eurocup is getting a spot in next season’s EuroLeague and also the best ranked team of the Spanish League which does not have a EuroLeague contract – that means Real Madrid, Barcelona and Baskonia are excluded – will get a spot for the 2017-18 season.

The spot allocated to Eurocup, however, can end up being a wildcard if the winner of the Eurocup is the same team as the best non-A licenced team of Liga Endesa.

That means that there’s still hope for other clubs to get a wildcard for next season, but this will be decided by the Spanish League playoffs. What’s certain in any case is that Spain will have at least four clubs in next season’s EuroLeague.
