Vatutin praised the captain of Olympiacos not only for his game but also his character….

“I don’t have a complex. I don’t hate Olympiacos or Vassilis Spanoulis,” he said in an interview with Russian newspaper RG. “He is a great player with a very masculine character. He is a person who always tells the truth, straight in the eye, whether you are a teammate or a player of another club. I respect him enormously. There are no complexes. We don’t look at the past. We have a game ahead of us and we need character, skill and luck in order to win it.”

“I have a very good relationship with the owners of Olympiacos, while head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos is a good friend of mine from his stint in CSKA. But it’s clear that there will be a “battle” in Istanbul and for two hours we’ll forget our friendship,” he added.
