CSKA Moscow and Leo Westermann have reached an agreement for a two-year deal, according to Eurohoops sources.
The 2017 VTB League champions are undergoing a roster revamp and acquire the 24-year-old international French guard as a complementary solution to their backcourt lineup.
One thing that must be cleared is that Westermann’s addition isn’t related in any way with the matter of Milos Teodosic and whether he’ll say “yes” to the unprecedentedly lucrative offer that CSKA has extended him or decide to examine his NBA opportunities.
His transfer is more linked to Aaron Jackson’s departure from the Moscow squad (Cory Higgins is also expected to follow). Since the American guard was out of the equation for the next season, the “Army Men” were looking for a strong back-up option who possessed solid play-making and defensive qualities.
Westermann fits that profile and he’s expected to join CSKA for the next two years. The French point guard comes from a fine season with Zalgiris Kaunas with which he averaged 8.2 points, 5.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 30 games of the EuroLeague R.S..
In the Lithuanian League, Westermann notched 6.7 points, 3.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game, helping Zalgiris win its seventh consecutive LKL title.
