Pianigiani, 48, arrives from Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem, which he led to the Israeli League championship and 7DAYS EuroCup semifinals last season. He succeeds Jasmin Repesa, who coached Milan the past two seasons. Pianigiani returns to the EuroLeague after four seasons away.

He is a veteran of six EuroLeague seasons, and led his hometown club Montepaschi Siena to Euroleague Final Four appearances in 2008 and 2011, and playoff appearances in 2009 and 2012. Pianigiani spent a decade working for the Montepaschi youth teams and as assistant before he was promoted to head coach in the summer of 2006. He produced instant success, winning six consecutive national titles from 2007 to 2012, four Italian Cup titles and five Italian SuperCup trophies. In his six seasons as Montepaschi’s head coach, Pianigiani won 90.1% of his Italian League games (225-28 record). He coached Fenerbahce Istanbul during the 2012-13 and served as Italy’s national team head coach from 2009 to 2015.
