Bertans arrives to Milan from Darussafaka, where he made his EuroLeague debut and averaged 6.4 points in 16 games.
Bertans began to play in his native town, Valmiera, before moving to ASK Riga in 2006 (in 2009 he helped the team winning the Latvian championship).
He stayed in Riga until 2009, the he played for Ventspils and moved to VEF Riga in 2010. With VEF he won three consecutive Latvian titles before transferring abroad for the first in 2013 to play for Bilbao in Spain, before joining Darussafaka.
