Panathinaikos extended a quite generous offer to Chris Singleton in order to make him a permanent “OAKA” resident. The proposal didn’t include only an increased salary (1.65 million per year) but also a 20% of his new buyout sum ($2 million), in case a club acquired him.
The American forward/center turned down the offer, informing the “Greens” that he believes he can find a much more lucrative contract when the 2018 offseason arrives, when he’ll become a free agent. Of course that’s if he stays in Europe this year because there’s always the possibility that he’ll sign with an NBA team until July 20, the deadline of the NBA opt-out clause in his contract with PAO.
Panathinaikos has been receiving plenty buyout offers for Singleton by clubs like CSKA Moscow and, more recently, Khimki Moscow. The latter have been particularly insistent, making even a 1.1 million bid to the Greek club in order to acquire the player.
