While the return of Marcelinho Huertas to EuroLeague should be considered certain, it still remains unclear which team’s jersey he’s going to wear. Unicaja Malaga seemed to be his destination, but another club has entered the game as well.
According to Eurohoops sources, Baskonia has gained the advantage for acquiring the experienced Brazilian play-maker who’s currently closer to returning to Vitoria after 2011 than becoming a Malaga resident.
Both teams are looking for a quality option to anoint as starting point guard and are offering Huertas a two-year deal. The player is leaning towards Baskonia, a familiar environment since he spent the period from 2009 to 2011 there, and his final decision should be expected quite soon.
In any case, Huertas, 34, will be back in Europe and the top-tier continental competition. He comes from a two-year stint in the NBA with the LA Lakers, during which he averaged 3.9 points and 3.1 assists per game.
