According to the side of the player, that’s the final decision and Wanamaker will compete in the BSL and also in the EuroCup next season.
It’s an unexpected turn of events, considering the recent quotes of Fenerbahce’s president. The fact remains that during the summer it was not a secret the Fenerbahce had approached the player and in theory, only the NBA could keep him away from them, something that was first reported back in May.
This notion was reinforced by the fact that Dogus will pay at least a big part of this season’s budget for Darussafaka and the company is also the new name sponsor of Fenerbahce. Essentially Wanamaker will be paid by the same pocket if he leaves Darussafaka for Fenerbahce.
It’s obvious that the presence of coach David Blatt on the bench of Darussafaka played a role in Wanamaker’s decision. And the question now is if Fenerbahce will still try in the 11th hour to lure him or look elsewhere for a player. With that being said, nine of Fenerbahce’s players are not Turkish and while there’s no limit in the EuroLeague, only eight of them can be registered in the Turkish BSL and six out of those eight can be used in a game.
