Gustavo Ayón was one of the players pointed out during the final stretch of the season in Real Madrid, after losing in the Final-Four semi-finals and in the ACB Finals against Valencia. Ayón was the first one to be self-critical of his game, as he seems to have learned last year’s summer lesson.
As he said to ‘Marca’ he was irresponsible last summer on how he approached the off-season. “This summer I have changed things compared to the previous summer, where I practically dedicated myself to eating tacos and I returned to training camp weighing 118 kilos. It cost me very much work, especially at the beginning of the season as it was difficult to get back in shape. This season I came back weighing 112 kilos, and I feel like I’m ready to start this season off well, “ said the Mexican player.
Ayón also commented on the pre-season and the training camp. “In the pre-season, I have felt pretty good, with the friendly games that are designed to get you in the rhythm of the game. It is really important for a player to understand the good things and the bad, and I hope that this year there will be a lot of celebration and not too much self-criticism.” He was also asked about Real Madrid‘s first opportunity for a title, the Spanish Super Cup. “We have to face it like what it is, a title, and it is important. We are Real Madrid and we always have to fight for all titles, “ he concluded by saying.
